Engineers holding a Master of Science in Materials Engineering are in much request in areas where innovation and development are important factors. This comes as a consequence of the exceptionally broad education they received on the different classes of materials (e.g. metals, polymers, ceramics, glasses, composites, semiconductors) and the disciplines explaining their behaviour (from Chemistry and Physics to Mechanics and Electromagnetic Engineering). Career opportunities span from those jobs more directly involved with the production and transformation of materials, to those dealing with the development of new industrial applications (as in the fields of mechanics, electronics, chemistry, energy production, telecommunications, building, transportation, biomedicine, environment and restoration), and to the employment in public and private research centres.
The job market welcomes Material Engineers as professionals capable of handling complex problems directly related to the production, treatment and applications of materials, acknowledging the high level of education obtained from the Politecnico laboratories, where original methodologies for the study of the structure and properties of materials are devised and new technologies for the manufacturing of complex material systems are brought to life.
